The Poppy Appeal in and around Fressingfield 2020

29 October 2020

The Covid-19 pandemic and the preventative measures currently in place has dictated how the Poppy Appeal in Fressingfield and the surrounding area will be delivered this year. There will be no door to door collections and distribution of poppies, as has been the custom in previous years. Furthermore, fundraising via unmanned static points, street collections and supermarket collections will be limited. A window of opportunity has arisen, in that collection boxes for Poppy Appeal donations are now permitted. The location of these boxes in the Fressingfield area is as follows:

In Fressingfield: Cowhams Car and Commercials, Sancroft Hall, The Fox and Goose, The Swan Public House,  The Village Stores,

In Mendham: The Sir Alfred Munnings

In Metfield: The Village Stores

In Weybread: Cathedral Garage, Middleton Farm Nursery, Wharton's Nursery.

In Wingfield: The De La Pole Arms, Wingfield Barns

Modern technology is being pursued with corporate partners and one new method of donating is a point of sale donation. When you pay for your shopping at the till or online, you will be asked if you would like to round up your total to the nearest pound or have donation options. Text to donate is being developed and the use of QR codes to make donations is also being considered. The emphasis of all these measures is to ensure the safety of volunteers and the general public. The use of cash to pay for poppies or in making donations is under review and this traditional method of payment may be relegated in favour of other payments eg the use of credit and debit cards.

It is stressed that the Poppy Appeal is NOT cancelled, The Poppy Appeal is  NOT postponed, it will be conducted in a totally different format this year.

The Poppy Appeal supporters in Fressingfield and the local area have, in the past, been very generous and their donations have been instrumental in providing essential support to veterans and their families. The Royal British Legion values this support and sincerely hopes that it will continue during these different and difficult circumstances

New website manager still wanted for Fressingfield village website

28 October 2020

Fressingfield has an established village website, incorporating all the usual components. In recent years, the parish council has had its own site, promoting, in particular, the neighbourhood development plan.  These two sites are being merged with the council site joining the village site.

It will be a new beginning for both! A new site needs a new website manager who has time to develop it further and market it to make it relevant, vibrant, modern - the 'go-to' place for anything Fressingfield. It is a voluntary position but one that can make a difference. Some experience with website management would be an advantage but training on the system will be given.

Interested? Please contact Andy Parris on andrewjparris@gmail.com
