We are all part of a war against the virus. We may feel that the lock-down will go on forever: it won't. It will come to an end, probably gradually. We won't have long to wait until we hear how the government will start to ease the stay at home guidance. The plan is that on Sunday the prime minister will explain how things will start to get back to normal.
One of the many events that has had to be postponed because of the lock-down is Fressingfield Royal British Legion's 75-year anniversary celebration/commemoration of VE Day. However, in its place, the national RBL has arranged some online and some 'let's-do-it-at -the-same-time' events on Friday 8th May:-
Of course, we can also join in a 'Stay at Home Street Party'.
The group 'VE Day 75' had planned many activities across the UK. Unfortunately, most have been cancelled. The one remaining is a toast for the heroes of WWII. Everyone is encouraged to join the ‘Nation’s Toast to the Heroes of WW2’ at 3pm on the 8th May. From the safety of your own home, you can stand up and raise a glass of refreshment of your choice to the following toast – “To those who gave so much, we thank you." You would be using this unique opportunity to pay tribute to the many millions at home and abroad that gave so much to ensure we all enjoy and share the freedom we have today.
Whatever your plans for VE Day 75, why not share them on Nextdoor Fressingfield?
