Contact details:  Reverend Canon Susan Loxton is the rector of the Sancroft Benefice, which is a group of the parishes of Fressingfield, Mendham, Metfield, Stradbroke, Weybread and Withersdale. You can contact her on 01379 388493, revloxton@gmail.com. The rectory is in Doctors Lane, Stradbroke, IP21 5HU. Our Fressingfield local minister is Reverend Peter Schwier, on 01379 586517.

The Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul, built on the site of an earlier church, has workmanship dating from circa 1320. The church is particularly noted for the beautiful carving on the ends of the medieval benches and for the Passion bench. The roof is supported by one of Suffolk’s famous single hammer beam structures.

In the south aisle is a portrait of Archbishop Sancroft, Fressingfield’s most famous son. He was Master of Emmanuel College, Cambridge, Dean of Saint Paul’s and was responsible for its rebuilding after the Great Fire of London. In later life, he was dispatched to the Tower of London because of his views. His tomb is in the churchyard of the village he loved and where he spent his retirement.

The lovely church is full of light and is of architectural and historic interest. It is the meeting place of one small part of the worldwide company of Christian believers. Week by week, young and old gather to sing God’s praises, to learn more about him and to bring to him in prayer their own needs and the needs of others near and far.

The building, by its noble design and commanding position, dominates the village, bearing witness of our God, so the church members endeavour, with his help, to bear witness in the local community to his laws and to his love and power.

Over the past 3 years a local ministry team has supported the rector, Rev Loxton, with the day to day spiritual and pastoral work of the church led by Rev Peter Schweir and their contact details are above.

We warmly invite you to join us to share in the wonder of worshipping God and experiencing the joy of fellowship with his people in this living church. The church is open every day during daylight hours.
